The biggest World Cup ever

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams, up from 32. Co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July 2026, the tournament expands to 104 matches. Not affiliated with FIFA — independent fan guide.

12 groups of four

The 48 teams split into 12 groups, A through L, four teams each. The opener is hosts Mexico v South Africa on 11 June, part of Group A. Track results on standings and the draw breakdown.

Who advances

  • The top two from each of 12 groups (24 teams).
  • The eight best third-placed teams.

That makes 32 teams in the knockouts — see our knockout guide.

The new Round of 32

For the first time the World Cup has a Round of 32, then Round of 16, quarters, semis, and the final. Follow the path on our bracket and the schedule hub. Predictions on Kickoff are free — bragging rights only.
