The 2026 tournament spans sixteen venues across eleven US cities, three Mexican cities and two Canadian cities — the widest geographic spread in World Cup history.

Heat, altitude and travel

Three variables will shape results. Heat in southern US and Mexican venues favours sides that can control tempo. Altitude in Mexico City is a genuine factor for teams arriving late. And travel — with the continent this large — makes the schedule itself a tactical concern.

A continental final stretch

The latter rounds concentrate in the largest US stadiums, with the final at MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey area. Expect the knockout atmosphere to build as the field narrows from 32 to one.
